York For the Win

Hey all, and welcome to another week.

So, right off the bat, there was a lot of confusion this week. Apparently, professors across England are going on strike for about a month, and some classes won't continue. However, students are still required to do assignments if they want passing grades. From what I understand, professors are not in charge of the module; the school is. So, when I turn in an assignment, I turn it into the history department, which can be graded by any of the staff. I definitely have some new challenges on my hands since I've never done assignments like this, and now I don't have support from my professors. Wish me luck!!

Another thing I didn't expect to be doing while studying at Leeds was helping other students with English. I didn't think about it, but with so many international students, English is a second language to most of them. Talk about challenging. Anyways, I was able to help some students correct papers and teach them a little more about our odd English system of writing.

This weekend was all about new adventures, and this one was a fun one. The school plans day trips to cities that are a short drive away. I was lucky enough to grab a ticket to York this weekend. I have to say, out of everywhere I have been in my life, York takes the cake. It's a mix of old history and even older history.

The York Minster was simply breathtaking. Built in the 1470s, the gothic-style church is easily the city's centerpiece. And if you think the outside is magnificent, the inside architecture work is out of this world. The picture for this week's post is from the York Minster, and the pictures don't do it any justice.

Even older, the Roman wall standing around the city's perimeter, which was built in the 13th century. This wall was built to last because the majority of it still stands and outlasted earlier walls constructed by the Vikings that lived in York, or as they called it at the time, Jorvik.

This little place of York reminded me why I'm studying history.

Till next week,

Cheers!!
